DCD Paraprofessional Position

  • Job Site: Littlefork-Big Falls Schools
  • Hours: 28 hours a week.
  • Duration: School Year
  • Pay Range: Starting $18.50/hour
  • Description:

    A DCD Special Education Paraprofessional works mainly within the DCD classroom with individuals who would be categorized with one or more of the following diagnoses: Developmental Cognitive Impairment, Severe Multiple Impairment, as well as Visual, Speech/Communication and Physical Impairments.  A qualified individual would need to have AND exhibit the following traits/qualities to be a candidate for a position within this setting:

    • Flexibility to adjust daily routine as needed for student success and per direction of supervisor.
    • Patience, ability to remain calm, supportive and dependable.
    • Ability to rely on own knowledge of student(s) to lead activities as needed
    • Diligence in creating, promoting and protecting the individual dignities of the student population within the special education setting.
    • Willingness to learn specific skills needed to complete essential tasks required by individual(s) including but not limited to: health related procedures, activities of daily living, adaptive communication, and behavior modification strategies, and physical management needs.


  • Qualifications:

    • Minimum of a H.S. diploma/equivalent and ability to complete Paraprofessional Competency Test.
    • Must be able to maintain a calm demeanor in high stress situations, maintain a positive attitude and provide support to students and staff as needed at all times.
    • Ability to work independently to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of paraprofessional role, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate.
    • Possess knowledge of physical and mental/cognitive impairments and their effects on educational opportunities.
    • CPR, CPI, and individual medical need trainings are mandatory.
    • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance.
    • Must be able to frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently or with partner lift.
    • Must be able to stand, kneel, and bend frequently to meet the needed physical requirement of each moment.
    • Must be able to physically assist with health care related exercises and activities of students.
    • Must be able to push, pull, and move students in assistive equipment when needed.
    • Must assist in physical management needs including lifting and transferring students.
